Bay Area Baseball Players Go Pro!

Hello Baseball Fans,

Many of you may not know that I have a special interest and a niche in Baseball Performance. I played baseball back in my early days from 2nd grade until I was 21 at the University of California, Davis. After my college baseball days ended due to a knee injury, I graduated with a degree in Biomechanics with the goal of helping baseball players optimize performance. In 2000, I became the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Mike Garcia at Canada College and the following year I joined Coach Doug Williams at the College of San Mateo (CSM), which is where I have been for the last 8 years.

Since I have been at CSM, we have won 8 conference titles and I have had the opportunity to work with many top notch baseball players. Most have gone on to play at major colleges and a number of them made it to the professional level.

I want to congratulate two newly signed professionals: John Karcich & Ryan Scoma.  Jon Karcich of the Santa Clara baseball team was selected in the seventh round  by the Anaheim Angels. Ryan Scoma of the University of California baseball team was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th Round.

Preventing Overuse Injuries in Kids Who Play Sports

On May 17th I was interviewed by Monica Ho Ehlers of the Examiner.com in an article, “Preventing overuse injuries in kids who play sports.” Check out the article: http://tinyurl.com/nhp7rf if you have kids who play sports.

I have been the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the College of San Mateo Baseball Team for 8 years and many other high school, college and Professional Athletes for 19 years. It absolutely sickens me to hear about kids needing surgery because of overuse.

Most of the time these injuries are the result of poor posture, lack of flexibility, mobility, overuse of throwing, lack of communication, the wrong or nonexistent flexibility and strengthening programs, parent, coach, doctor, physical therapist, athletic trainer or athlete’s lack of education or comprehensiveness of injury prevention programs, lack of sleep, poor nutrition and year round baseball. Quite a list huh? Yes, there are a number of factors and this may seem overwhelming; however, the reality is that your athlete will get injured and not make it to the next level, whatever that next level is.

Trouble with Digestion & Can’t Lose Weight?

Did you know that millions of people suffer from acid reflux every day?

This is a common complaint among many of our clients, along with their inability to lose weight and improve their health.

I receive an on-line newsletter from Gluten Free Works and it had a good article, “Problems with Acid Reducers and Acid Reflux Fixes that Work” by John Libonati. The article states, ”In 2006, over 100 million prescriptions for proton pump inhibitors (acid reflux drugs) were filled at a cost of $13.6 billion.  It is true that acid reflux drugs definitely help in the short term.  They reduce acid.”

The goes on further goes to say that although the acid and symptoms of heartburn are reduced, there is a high likelihood of calcium absorption problems, vitamin B12 deficiency and related neurological issues.

Are You Scared?

Happy Saturday,

  • How many of you are living the life of your dreams?
  • Do you hit the snooze button and dread going to work every day?
  • Do you dread going home to the same situation every night?

If you can relate to any of the above… maybe this post is just what you need.

I find that many clients I work with at the Optimal Fitness Lifestyle Center are STUCK and they come to my Staff & I for coaching to get them through their STUFF. They have gotten themselves into patterns that are not contributing to their goals and dreams and our goal is to assist them every step of the way.
